In a somewhat shocking statement, actress Oviya said that Malayalam movies are quite uninteresting and boring and that only senior heroines are given their due respect. Oviya gained recognition as an actress in the recently released Tamil film Kalavani which is doing well at the box office. It also happens to be her debut film in Kollywood. She says that she initially thought that she would be asked to play the role of a city girl; however, she was in for a surprise when she was given the role of a village girl. She says that it was the director who taught her how to walk, talk, and laugh like a village damsel. Oviya says that Tamil movies are better than the ones in Malayalam. In Malayalam films, newcomers are often ignored and preference is given only to senior heroines. She says that Tamil cinema is friendlier towards new faces and new ideas.
