Megastar Mammootty bagged the state award for the best actor in 2009 for his sterlling performance in Palerimanikyam Oru Pathira Kolapathakathinte Kathaalong with Pazhassi Raja and Loud Speaker. Mohan Lal too was in the race till the last round along with Jagathy Sreekumar and Innocent. Swetha Menon walked away with the best actress award. Ranjith was selected as best director for Palerimanikyam Oru Pathira Kolapathakathinte Katha. Pazhassi Raja by Hariharan, which leads in the best cinema category also has stamped a strong presence in the best supporting actor category, with Manoj K Jayan and Sharat Kumar in contention. The going is tough for the best film with Palerimanikyam , Brahmaram, Kerala Cafe, Soofi Paranja Kadha too filling the space apart from Pazhassi Raja.
